More Green Lantern Chat On the Raging Bullets Podcast

During last week's holiday break I sat down with the hosts of the Raging Bullets Podcast, Sean Whelan and Jim Segulin, to continue our conversation about the Green Lantern universe titles that we started a couple of weeks ago.  This time around we discuss Brightest Day 14, Green Lantern Corps 54, Green Lantern 49 and the movie trailer.

Green Lantern's Parallax Revealed

Parallax
Our good friends over at the Daily Blam put a picture up on their site this morning that is reportedly taken from an upcoming issue of the Green Lantern comic that reveals the look of the main villain in the Green Lantern movie, Parallax.  Since then Warner Brothers has asked them to take the image down and they have complied - however I have not been contacted by them, so take a look!

Starting with issue 59, every month Geoff Johns is sharing with readers glimpses behind the scenes of the creation of the theatrical version of Green Lanern.  The image appears to be a CG render, but it doesn't look to be taken from the film itself, but from the CG modeling software.

In the film we can expect to see Parallax tied to the death of Abin Sur and the morphing of Hector Hammond.

Green Lantern 59 Review

Black Hand returns - but he's not the man he used to be! Our antagonist shows him or herself, Larfleeze turns into a pickpocket, and Parallax gets a new host in the fifty ninth issue of Geoff Johns' run on Green Lantern. This issue also features the first of several exclusive previews for the upcoming movie, shining a spotlight on Hector Hammond.

The Story -
This issue starts out with two EMT's taking care of a couple of wounded men in the back of a speeding ambulance, which is side swiped by a tractor trailer. Pinned under the ambulance, EMT Shane Thompson lies dying as the Indigo Tribe and Black Hand watch from deep space.  Black Hand appears in Thompson's mind and we learn that he has been chosen to play host to the entity of compassion, Proselyte.

Green Lantern Corps 54 Review

Sinestro shows that experience trumps youthful enthusiasm, the Weaponer explains the source of  his hatred, and Kyle Rayner rallies the rescue squad in this week's Green Lantern Corps #54.  Get the lowdown on what happens this issue as well as my opinions on Bedard and Kirkham in my review of part two of The Weaponer arc.

The Story -
Sinestro isn't too happy with Kyle Rayner's fisticuffs at the end of issue 53, admonishing him for daring to throw a punch and endangering the fragile truce called at the end of Blackest Night.  Sinestro's retaliation lands them in the middle of the Halloween costume parade in Greenwich Village, and of course the patrons think it's all a part of the festivities.

The Green Lantern Bling's the Thing

The prop ring shipped out this week
In one of the initial waves of public relations to get people interested in the Green Lantern movie a number of mysterious boxes arrived at the homes of a number of public figures and offices of several high traffic websites proclaiming that the recipients were the first new recruits to the Green Lantern Corps.  Those more fortunate than the rest of us were treated to the gifts of replica Green Lantern rings based on the new design used in the movie in a really cool lit up case.

Actor/Writer/Director Kevin Smith showed off his ring, as did DC Co-Publisher and artist Jim Lee.  The website Superherohype was also recruited and showed off their new bling - so the succeeding in getting people to talk about the movie and creating jealously amongst the rest of us poor slobs not annointed by whoever is in charge of public relations for the movie.

The Green Lantern Movie Tie-In We Don't Want to See!

So I'm surfing the web today and see the funniest ad placement over on Superherohype.com and suddenly realized this accidental juxtaposition represents the kind of poor marketing that we Green Lantern fans don't want to see:

I can see some ad agency genius pitching an ad to Ryan Reynold now - "You fly in and zap the yellow CG stain monsters with your ring, Ryan!"

Free Green Lantern Movie Theme for your PS3

Playstation 3 Theme Preview Image
Tonight was a special evening for Green Lantern fans everywhere with the worldwide debut of the first trailer for the upcoming Green Lantern movie.  To celebrate the trailer's release I've put together a new theme for the Playstation 3 featuring some of the images from the trailer.

This is free, of course, and just my way of sharing my enthusiasm for the Green Lantern mythos fan to fan.

Entertainment Tonight Airs Green Lantern Trailer

As advertised when Entertainment Tonight aired their pre-preview from the Green Lantern movie, this evening the show aired much more footage.  In fact ET aired the complete trailer that will be seen in theaters starting Friday preceding Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1.

The costume looks much better in action and is an improvement over the Entertainment Weekly cover from July, although I still have some concerns about the shape and color of the mask.  Hopefully as the post production work continues this will evolve a bit more and we'll end up with something that looks a bit better.

Update: The trailer has now been officially released in hi-def and can be seen at Apple's trailer page or the movie's official website!

Get a load of Tomar-Re, Sinestro and Abin Sur!  EPIC!

Raging Bullets Scopes in on Green Lantern

As always it's an honor to take part in the Raging Bullets podcast, what I consider to be the finest DC centric discussion show on the Internet.  Last week I sat down with hosts Sean Whelan and Jim Segulin as they set their sites on the Green Lantern franchise and spent a couple of hours talking about the recent events of Brightest Day, Emerald Warriors issue 4, and Green Lantern 58.  We of course got off on a number of tangents and had a great time sharing our passion for the state of the Green Lantern corner of the DC universe.

We are planning on getting together again soon to talk about Green Lantern Corps and I'm sure the conversation will move on to the movie trailer as well.  If you're not already listening to their show, this episode can be found here

The War of the Green Lanterns is On!

Geoff Johns posted over on the DC's The Source blog a brief snippet about the upcoming War of the Green Lanterns storyline/event that will crossover between all three titles starting in March of 2011 and run for three months.  Johns mentions that the story will kick off in War of the Green Lanterns, issue 1, in March, suggesting that running concurrent to the events of the three Green Lantern titles will be a three issue miniseries.

Events are ramping up for the upcoming story with DC's February solicitations for the Green Lantern titles mentioning that they are preludes to the war.  As Johns says, "every Green Lantern is about to be tested — and tested against one another."

Entertainment Tonight Airs Green Lantern Footage!

This evening the television show Entertainment Tonight aired footage from the Green Lantern film as a teaser for more that will be airing on Tuesday evening's episode.

All I know is, right now, I'm about as jazzed for this as is humanly possible!  The clips are short, but everything looks freaking amazing!

I'll have the footage up as long as the powers that be allow it.

Mogo Socializes in Emerald Knights

It was previously revealed that Mogo and Kilowog would be appearing in the upcoming direct-to-video release of Green Lantern: Emerald Knights and that Kilowog's story would be one about his days as a recruit. Bruce Timm recently revealed in an interview taped for Newsarama during the New York Comic-Con that the Mogo story would be an adaptation of Mogo's first appearance, the story "Mogo Doesn't Socialize" by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons that appeared as a backup story in issue #188 of the second volume of Green Lantern from 1985.

In the story a young Arisia questions why some of the Green Lanterns never appear on Oa. Tomar-Re shares a tale in which Bolphunga the Unrelenting travels to a distant planet to defeat Mogo in order to further bolster his reputation as a cosmic bad-ass. Arriving on the planet Bolphunga cannot find Mogo and he spends years in search of the most feared and mysterious Green Lantern of them all, examining every insect and fauna to discover where Mogo is hiding. It is only in a fit of desperation, when Bolphunga examines the pattern of the finely manicured greenery on the planet, that he comes to the confidence shattering conclusion that Mogo is the very planet itself, leading him to make a hasty retreat. In conclusion Tomar-Re explains that this is the reason why Mogo doesn't socialize - his gravity would rip Oa to bits.

Timm mentions the adaptation near the end of the video found here.

Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors 4 Review

Guy Gardner and his team gets closer to learning who is hoarding Rakkonium and the hunt for Sodam Yat continues, only he's not waiting for help to come to him in this week's issue of Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors.

The Story -
On Daxam the search for Sodam Yat gets rough as his father, the new President of Daxam, uses some questionable interrogation methods to find the location of his son. The Daxamites are desperate to get Yat back so they can throw him in the sun and get superpowers once again and become a power in the galaxy. Guy Gardner, Kilowog, Arisia and Bleez arrive and are denied permission to land - of course Guy Gardner wouldn't be Guy Gardner if he took "no" for an answer, so he and his team make quite an entrance, interrupting the torture, er interrogation, of the Daxamite before he reveals where Yat is hiding.

Warner Brothers Releases Official Green Lantern Production Stills

With all the attention being given to the Captain America production images, Warner Brothers today released some official production stills of their own to remind us that Green Lantern is only 226 days away.  While I'm enthusiastic about seeing anything from the movie, the sad part is that only one of the images released today are new and it shows neither a Hal in GL uniform, Sinestro or a ring construct.  In fact, the other images are the ones used in Entertainment Weekly back in July, albeit these are of much better quality than the scans that were made from the magazine.

Despite that being a bit of a let down, it does make the wait until the trailer comes out on November 19th a little more bearable.
Here they are:

Carol Ferris (Blake Lively) admonishes Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) about his reckless behavior.
