Entertainment Tonight Previews Green Lantern

While the quality of the following video isn't very good, it represents a segment of today's Entertainment Tonight episode that many people, myself included, missed out on.  If features some great behind the scenes video of the making of the movie as well as interviews with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.  Hopefully a better quality video will emerge soon.

Green Lantern Six Flags Great Adventure Coaster Coverage

E-Asylum posted a video from one of their TV segments of their visit to the Six Flags Great Adventure theme park in New Jersey to cover the launch of the new Green Lantern "Stand Up to Your Fear" roller coaster.  Their footage shows how much care went into the design of this ride, showing all the great decorations that make it feel special, from Hal Jordan's jet to the central power battery.

Kirby Krackle Releases "Ring Capacity" Music Video

The cover of "E for Everyone"
Nerd rock band Kirby Krackle has just released a new animated music video for their song "Ring Capacity" from their second CD, "E for Everyone".  The video is really cool, intercutting the band playing along with the events as they unfold in space until the two storylines merge when Hal Jordan and the band charge their rings together before a confrontation with Sinestro.  The song is one of their most popular tunes and is one of two Kirby Krackle songs currently available on Rock Band for the Xbox 360 via the Rockband Network, with the other being the Fallout 3 inspired song, "Vault 101".  There was a fan effort on Facebook to get "Ring Capacity" on the Green Lantern movie's soundtrack and played during the end credits but Warner Brothers is not interested in doing that.

The band's third CD will be released at the San Diego Comic Con this summer and a third track is currently play testing for release to Rockband.

Clancy Brown to Voice Parallax

Clancy Brown
The Daily Blam today posted exclusive news on the casting of Clancy Brown as the voice of Parallax.  Brown is familiar to genre film fans through his roles in Highlander and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.  He has quite a resume when it comes to voice acting having provided the voice for Lex Luthor in nearly every appearance of the character since the Justice League cartoon and he has been the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants' Mr. Krabs since 1999.

Don't read further if you don't want to be spoiled....

Help Dr. Waller in the Updated Green Lantern Viral Campaign

As I said yesterday, the emails to Dr. Waller have worked in the Green Lantern movie viral campaign.  Today they turned the Spitzer telescope to highlight the red spots and they have not spotted a number of rings of green light in the sky as well - gee, what could that be!?  Both Dr. Waller's blog and the Newton Astronomers sites have been updated to reflect the new information and the whole game has shifted into second gear.

A third site that links us to the Spitzer Telescope data has shown up that is also owned by Warner Brothers.  Since the amount of data is overwhelming, Dr. Waller is asking us to visit the new site to note areas on the images from telescope that Dr. Waller's people should look at.  People can mark on the images using a graphic interface that provides a number of tools to annotate over the images.  The following video gives you and idea of how this functions.

So stop reading the blog and get over there to help out!

New Post Implies The Green Lantern Viral Campaign Is Moving Forward

The Newton Astronomers / Dr. Waller blog viral campaign I've been following for the past two weeks seems to moving forward some time over the next twenty four hours.  Dr. Waller's blog post of May 20th suggested that something would be happening in the next week, and this evening the following was posted by "Ellie" at the Newton Astronomers site:

If you look up towards the Milky Way tonight, Spitzer will be looking there too. We got an email just now from Dr Waller’s assistant saying he’s persuaded her and NASA to get us the time we asked for – it’ll happen in the early hours of the morning, our time. Brian and Ben are already in the pub, celebrating until it gets dark enough to go out to Wait’s Hill. Ivo is working out whether we’ll be able to see anything on our scope. I’m sure the answer is no, but it’s nice to look anyway.

So thank you Dr Waller, and thank you everyone who helped out on this – it was a brilliant community effort. Look up to the stars tonight and think about what we achieved together.

Add to this that today the Newton Astronomers full page add appeared in all three Green Lantern comics that were in comic book stores and the time is certainly right for this to kick into second gear!

Green Lantern Episode of Brave and The Bold Delayed

The Cartoon Network has postponed all new episodes for both Young Justice and Batman: The Brave and The Bold, changing the time slot for Young Justice to Fridays at 6 PM (EST) and removing the Batman series from the schedule indefinitely.   Both shows were set to air new episodes this week with repeats of the shows filling the time slots instead.  The new Batman episode that was to air this week was the Green Lantern / Star Sapphire story.

While the Cartoon Network did not provide a reason for the delay, Internet rumors speculate that production speed may be a factor and the network wants more finished episodes before they start airing any of them.  So for now we'll have to be happy with the images and videos below.

New Green Lantern Spot Includes More Kilowog

A new television spot for Green Lantern aired during American Idol which included another line from Michael Clarke Duncan as Kilowog.  Also returning is a moment reminiscent of the "Yeah, I know, right!" line from the trailer last November.

New Images May Reveal Noble Collection Green Lantern Merchandise

When I first saw the list of companies who had been licensed to produce Green Lantern movie merchandise one of the first names that jumped off the list was the Noble Collection.  They have a history of producing a wide variety of well made, and expensive, items.  I've purchased some of the products from their Harry Potter line and they are top notch and well worth the money.  So the thought of them producing a lantern and ring, one that's actually sized to fit, has been something I've been waiting to see.

With just over twenty days left before the release of the film we have yet to see what the Noble Collection will be offering fans.  Today, however, a couple of images have made their way to the Internet that claim to have been photographed for the Noble Collection.  One features a great looking lantern and the other a ring that appears slightly different from the chunkier design that is in the film.  It appears to be a bit thinner than the actual movie ring and the Green Lantern symbol seems to slope outward as it approaches the body of the ring rather than the more straight lines of the ring in the film.  This may be a modification that needed to be made for the ring to be more durable or wearable, or perhaps it is a woman's version of the ring (all speculation on my part).

More Emails from Amanda Waller Address Abin Sur's Distress Call, Supermax

Since the supposed Green Lantern viral has gone live, fans from all over the world have been flooding Dr. Waller's inbox with communications about Newton Astronomers request to use the Spitzer telescope to study some strange lights they have observed in the night sky.  Yesterday I posted some correspondence  between a Dr. Waller and a young woman playing the role of Lex Luthor and I earlier posted the emails that I sent and received to the same site.

We also shared some communications from Miles, a reader of my blog, who posed as Bruce Wayne.  Today Miles has more to offer us with a recent email he sent to Dr. Waller and the response he received from her.  Here's what he sent to her this time around.

Green Lantern Revs Up With Hot Wheels

Mattel's licensing for the Green Lantern movie extends beyond the action figures and role-playing toys that are appearing on toy shelves all across the country.  Hot Wheels is also jumping on the emerald bandwagon with a line of Green Lantern themed toys including race tracks, radio controlled cars and a small version of the 1971 Dodge Challenger that Hal Jordan drives in the movie.  They've also devoted a portion of their website to Green Lantern with games and information about their product line.  Here's an ad showing some of the products in the Green Lantern Hot Wheels product selection; hover over the image to zoom in.

Green Lantern Movie Spawns Milk Campaign In U.S.

Earlier this month we displayed a poster being used in the United Kingdom to promote their milk industry and now today comes another image of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan promoting milk consumption in the United States. The poster and news of the campaign debuted on the Access Hollywood website. A web site has also been set up for the new campaign, but there is no content on it yet.

**Update - the web site for this campaign is now live and contains games you play to prove your worth as a Green Lantern with narration by Michael Clarke Duncan, the voice of Kilowog in the Green Lantern movie.

Elisabeth Moss Talks About Arisia in Latest Emerald Knights Interview

Warner Brothers Home Video has released a studio conducted interview with actress Elisabeth Moss, familiar to many from her hit AMC television show Mad Men, about her experience voicing Arisia for the upcoming DC Universe direct to video feature Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.  The studio also provided two short video segments to go with the following interview.

Question: What’s the essence of Arisia’s story in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights?

Elisabeth Moss: It’s sort of Arisia’s first day on the job, so there’s a huge learning curve for her. She’s just been basically plucked out of class on her home planet and thrown into this intergalactic police force – just as the universe is under attack. So it’s all very overwhelming for her. But she’s smart and courageous, so she rises to the occasion.
Question: You get years to develop your character on shows like Mad Men and The West Wing. Was it difficult to have just one day in Arisia’s shoes?

Elisabeth Moss: Well, I really love Arisia’s boots – they’re very cool, I like their style – so I like being in her shoes (she laughs). Animation is great because you’re part of a large team effort. I’m only required to provide my voice for a single character, and to act that role while the director and writers and animators create the entire story. So it’s fun to see that all come together, especially to see an animated sort-of version of yourself.

Get a Sneak Peak of the Green Lantern Movie Companion Book

Parka Blogs has an early review up on the Green Lantern: From Page to Screen movie companion book that will be available for purchase on May 31st. The book is written by Ozzy Inguanzon, Green Lantern's researcher and asset manager, with a forward by Geoff Johns. Clocking in at 208 pages, this hardcover provides fans with a terrific, no holds barred look at the making of the film.

The book is filled with concept art and computer renders from the movie, illustrating some of the design options that the film's crew considered during the production process.  The book even includes a rendered image of the Green Lantern uniform with the comic book accurate white gloves, which the filmmakers decided did not look right on film.  After seeing the image I agree with their decision.

As I said, it is an all access look at the film, so anyone not wanting to have anything spoiled for them should probably not go too far into the book before the film's debut on June 17th since there are images of things that are best left unseen if you are concerned about some things being given away.  The site also put up the following video of them flipping through the book, but beware that there are some images after the one minute mark that would spoil things for you if you are concerned about it.

DC Beyond Launches Online Green Lantern Battle Cards Game

Last August DC Beyond, DC's family friendly entertainment portal, launched the Green Lantern: Emerald Adventures action adventure game.  The game was able to be played in 3D and for a while you could get a Green Lantern mask that had the familiar red and blue lenses to give players a fun way to enjoy the 3D game play.

The game is gone now, but with the upcoming Green Lantern movie less than a month away Warner Brothers has created a special "Green Lantern Beyond" website that includes a number of computer wallpaper images for download and a brand new strategy card game called "Green Lantern Battle Cards".   Battle Cards puts the player in charge of a squad of four Green Lanterns in the form of character cards who engage in a confrontation with four computer controlled enemy cards.  Each card carries an attack value and a damage value with the goal being to score more damage against the computer controlled adversary over the four rounds of the battle.  Both players have the option to enhance the attack power of their cards by leveraging "willpower" attack multipliers to increase the value of the battle damage their card has.

Amanda Waller Responds to Lex Luthor in Green Lantern Viral Campaign

A Blog of Oa reader from Indonesia, Rianna Lauren, recently contacted Dr. Amanda Waller as part of the presumed Green Lantern viral campaign and she sent me the response she received from "The Wall" to share with everyone who's been following both Dr. Waller's Blog and the Newton Astronomers site.  Here's Rianna's well-crafted email that she sent, playing the role of Lex Luthor:

Dear Dr. Waller,
Please read through my entire message.  I thought twice, perhaps thrice, when I wanted to contact you, because I  needed to fully make sure that the anomaly these people saw is really there.  I wouldn't want to mail you for an utter nonsense. I had some people to check up on it, we put up a few telescopes and observed this for a few  consecutive nights, and I'd say what these people find is very much worth  investigating. It's very intriguing, even to me.

It may be more than just a simple anomaly in space, Dr. Waller, it may be something that's completely out of this world and can change the overall of mankind. This may be a great opportunity for a development in our field of astronomy.

But if that isn't convincing enough, think about the complete opposite possibility of the anomaly being something so positive to us. Maybe it's not all money. It may be something dangerous. Perhaps an intergalactic threat, as silly as it sounds. The anomaly is indeed very unusual and without YOUR support, we will never find out more about the secret and wide possibilities this anomaly holds.

I repeat, Dr. Waller, this is something that is very much worth checking.  It WILL be worth it. If you ever need my assistance, Lex Corp is ready to help.

Oh, and just so you know, I do have certain interests in the fields of  politics, so "President Luthor" might just be part of a new chapter in that history book of yours.

Thank you.
Lex Luthor

New TV Spot Airs

A new thirty second television ad for Green Lantern began airing recently, perhaps the tenth unique commercial for the film.  This new spot does show snippets of what we haven't seen before, this time with Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard) trying to use Hal's (Ryan Reynolds) ring and a moment between Hal and Carol Ferris (Blake Lively). Like the third theatrical trailer detailing the history of the Green Lantern Corps that was released this past Friday, the ad does carry the acknowledge of the film's PG-13 rating.
