Green Lantern: New Guardians #11 Review

With very little time left before all four of the books in the Green Lantern family converge for the arrival of the Third Army, all of the plots in Green Lantern: New Guardians come together for the final couple of issues before the foundation shaking Green Lantern Annual arrives at the end of August.  Issue eleven brings with it some revelations that many including myself saw coming as well as indications that there just might be more going on than we realize.

Green Lantern: The Animated Series Soundtrack Review

Sometimes the musical score is an overlooked part of a production, especially on television where the movements are short and often, how shall I phrase it, cookie-cutter in nature.  But the soundtrack for Green Lantern: The Animated Series has been a hugely foundational part of the show's success, and I know for me it's an integral part of the storytelling.  Like a major Hollywood film, the score for the show carries with it unique themes for the major cast, and as the liner notes from Composer Frederik Wiedmann point out, those themes evolve over the course of the series as the characters themselves grow and change.

Green Lantern Corps #11 Review

With the Third Army story just weeks away from launching itself all the books in the Green Lantern family are wrapping up their individual stories while the bigger picture begins to coalesce.  For the Green Lantern Corps title in particular this means moving the chess pieces about carefully since the Guardians play a crucial role in the series and now isn't the right time to move them too close to where they need to be when everything comes crashing down.  So with issue eleven the action is cranked up to a whole new level to keep  things moving.

Green Lantern Featured in Upcoming Justice League iOS Game

Hal Jordan will be one of five playable characters in the new iOS game for iPhone and iPad Justice League: Earth's Final Defense.  The game is being developed by game studio Netmarble.

According to the studio the characters in the game will be customizable and include skins featuring costume variations.  This might allow for players to choose other Green Lanterns if the studio opts to do that, although they don't mention this in their promotional information.  The game will have four chapters with twenty missions available.  The target release date is Summer of 2012.

Warner Brothers has made the sizzle reel from this weekends Comic Con International available to view online.  The reel shows the arrival of the Anti-Monitor, Hal's first meeting with Guy Gardner, the debut of Ch'p and Tomar-Re and other scenes from the episodes that start airing in September.

Part 2 of the Raging Bullets GL Episode

I recently had an opportunity to return to the Raging Bullets Podcast to have an in depth conversation about all things Green Lantern. Co-host Sean Whelan and I ended up spending over four hours talking about everything from the animated series to the film to the coming of the Third Army.  Episode 313 is the second part of our conversation covering Red Lanterns and Green Lantern: New Guardians. You can listen to the show below or, better yet, you can subscribe to their awesome show on iTunes or your favorite podcast catcher.

Ch'p and Tomar-Re to Appear in Green Lantern: The Animated Series

Unfortunately neither DC, Newsarama or any of the other outlets that have been covering Comic Con International in San Diego this week provided live coverage of the DC Nation panel this afternoon.  That's a great disappointment to all us DC animation fans who couldn't attend and hopefully at least the sizzle reels will make their way to the Internet so we can see the great footage that Giancarlo Volpe told us had been assembled for the show.

**Update - you can see the footage shown at Comic Con here.**

Hallmark Releases a Second Green Lantern Ornament

Last year at this time I commented that I felt Hallmark missed the mark by releasing a Green Lantern Christmas ornament that didn't light up or play the oath.  To my surprise I discovered that they have released a new ornament this year that includes both!

As a part of their 2012 Keepsake ornament line the new Green Lantern "Beware My Power" ornament features the film version of Hal Jordan standing on a pedestal which, when the side button is pressed, lights Hal up from the bottom while it plays Ryan Reynolds reciting the oath.

The new ornament is available now and retails for $19.95.

Green Lantern Panel Coverage from Comic Con International

Geoff Johns
DC Comics held their combination Green Lantern and Justice League panel today at Comic Con International in San Diego.  Geoff Johns, James Robinson, Jim Lee, Nicola Scott, Tony Bedard, Francis Manapul, Biran Buccellato were on hand to talk about what's coming up in both books, with the Green Lantern portion providing a little bit of information about the upcoming Third Army story.

Some members of the Justice League will be quitting the team, although no clues were provided we already know that Hal is more than likely not on the team in the near future.

Podcast of Oa Episode 25

In this episode of the Podcast of Oa hosts Bill Giancoli and Myron Rumsey discuss Green Lantern Corps #10, Green Lantern: New Guardians #10 and Red Lanterns #11. All the books are on a collision course this summer before everything comes to a head in August’s Green Lantern Annual. But not all is as good as it could be and both hosts have some harsh criticism on the art of a couple of the books. We also talk about the recently released images of the four interlocking covers that make up the launch of the Third Army story and what the images may reveal about the future of the Green Lantern universe. We also respond to some great comments and questions we received by voicemail and email.

More Green Lantern 3 3/4" Figures in the Future

Photo: Action Figure Insider
On the show floor at Comic Con International in San Diego fans can see the diorama that Geoff Johns recently revealed on G4's "Attack of the Show".  But what's exciting about this new presentation is that there are a number of Green Lantern prototype figures in the display as well.  Along with that came the news during today's DC Collectibles panel was the news that another two-pack of 3 3/4 inch figures will be available at the New York show this fall.  The next set of figures will be John Stewart and Atrocitus.

During the panel the comment was made that if the Kyle Rayner / Kilowog pack sold well in San Diego and the second release sold well this fall the other figures shown in the diorama would likely follow.  The diorama itself is still being considered and they had no idea of what the pricing would be for it if they do produce it.

Geoff Johns Comments on New Green Lantern, Third Army Event

During today's DC Nation panel Geoff Johns mentioned a little bit of information about the new Green Lantern that will appear in the coming months, in particular he addressed the reason why the character carries a gun.  According to Johns, the new ring slinger is skeptical about the concept of a ring powered solely by energy.

Johns also commented that the Guardians of the Universe create the Third Army to, among other things, remove free will from the universe.

More will come as Comic Con International continues throughout the coming weekend and there's likely to be much more Green Lantern news tomorrow when the Justice League / Green Lantern panel takes place.  Coverage of that panel can be found here.

Justice League to Play a Role in the Next Rocksteady Batman Game

Variety reported today that, as a part of DC Entertainment's continued plan on promoting DC's stable of characters, the Justice League will play a prominent role in the upcoming prequel to the wildly successful Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City videogames.  The game will be set as a prequel to the two older games and will be produced by the same company, Rocksteady Studios.  Reportedly the new game will deal with Batman's first encounter with the Joker.  Nothing more about the project is known at this time other than that the game is likely not going to see a release until 2014 due to Warner Brothers Interactive focusing on the more immediate release of the Ed Boon produced Injustice: Gods Among Us fighting game.

Guy Gardner Set for Green Lantern Animated Debut

TV Guide let slip today some news about the upcoming return of Green Lantern: The Animated Series with comments by series producers Giancarlo Volpe and Jim Krieg about what fans can expect this fall.  When Hal returns to Earth at the end of the "Homecoming" episode at the conclusion of his battle with Atrocitus, little does he know that he's been replaced as the Green Lantern of Sector 2814.  In his absence Guy Gardner has been chosen as the protector of our little part of the universe.

Volpe mentioned that Gardner is one of his favorite characters during our interview with him so it'll be fun to see how they play with his personality when the second half of the season resumes.  According the the article Guy is being voiced by Diedrich Bader whose comedic past will seem to play an important role in how Guy is played onscreen.  Bader, perhaps best known as Oswald Lee Harvey during his nine year stint on the Drew Carey Show, has been doing a variety of voice acting jobs and recently played Batman on Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Also mentioned in the article was the revelation of the major villain that Volpe indicated most fans might not see coming - the Anti-Montior.  This brings about the need for Hal to reunite the crew of the Interceptor, a job which might not be so easy as not everyone is willing or able to join the battle.

As Krieg jokes, "Essentially it's the plot of The Blues Brothers — but there's less music."

Fans attending the San Diego Comic Con can see a sizzle real for the coming season as well as purchase the Green Lantern Animated Series soundtrack weeks before the street date.

Part 1 of A Green Lantern Marathon on Raging Bullets

I recently had an opportunity to return to the Raging Bullets Podcast to have an in depth conversation about all things Green Lantern. Co-host Sean Whelan and I ended up spending over four hours talking about everything from the animated series to the film to the coming of the Third Army.  We ended up talking so much that Episode 312 is part 1 of a 2 episode conversation!  You can listen to the show below or, better yet, you can subscribe to their awesome show on iTunes or your favorite podcast catcher.

Green Lantern ARTFX+ Statue to be Released in 2013

Kotobukiya’s line of DC Comics “New 52” ARTFX+ Statues continues, capturing the new looks and costumes of heroes in the Justice League. Kotobukiya’s excellent craftsmanship can be seen in the intricate details of Green Lantern’s ring-generated New 52-style suit including the shoulder pad-like armor and of course the logo on his chest. Jordan’s green mask is perfect, as is his wind-blown brown hair. Green Lantern stands nearly 7 ½ inches tall (in the ARTFX+ 1/10th scale) and was sculpted by master artist Atelier Bamboo. Magnets in his feet make him perfectly stable on his included display base, and he’ll look perfect on your shelf next to the rest of the Justice League!

Red Lanterns #11 Review

Red Lanterns has been a bit of an enigma in comparison with the rest of the Green Lantern family with wandering plotlines that seem to never reach fruition and artwork that similarly waffles between cheesecake and a horror film. Last month's issue showed the promise of what this title could be as some of the random elements began to come together. As all the Green Lantern books converge for the coming of the Third Army and the First Lantern, the next to the last issue of Red Lanterns before the event attempts to cinche things a little tighter.

Geoff Johns Reveals Green Lantern SDCC Exclusive Figures

Geoff Johns appeared on G4TV's "Attack of the Show" this evening, revealing a two pack of 3 3/4 inch Green Lantern figures as DC Collectibles first Comic Con exclusive for the San Diego Comic Con.  The two pack of figures is the first entry in a potential line of smaller scale figures with this initial offering containing a Kyle Rayner and Kilowog figure.  Additionally, host Blair Herter's visit showed off an awesome looking Green Lantern Central Power Battery playset for the smaller scale figures.

This turns me all Larfleeze-y!
While no questions were asked about the upcoming Justice League movie, or any DC movie or television show, Johns did mention that there will be a playable version of the upcoming Injustice: Gods Among Us videogame that was announced in May as well as indicate that the roster of playable characters would be impressive.

You can see the entire visit to DC's West Coast office below - the reveal of the figures starts at the 1:35 mark, but it's worth watching the whole video just to see how incredible the office is.
