Green Lantern Corps #8 Review

After last month's pause in the action and the emotional story of Kirrt's family in issue seven, the eighth issue of Green Lantern Corps launches into the "Alpha War" as John Stewart begins to face the consequences of his actions during the Keeper battle.  Writer Peter Tomasi takes this first issue of his next arc to lay the foundation for a story that is likely to be filled with all the drama and action we've come to expect from him.

The War Heats Up in Green Lantern 65

This week we were treated to a great one-two punch of the War of the Green Lanterns with the release of parts four and five, bringing up half-way into the crossover.  Part four takes place in Green Lantern #65 with the cover revealing how Hal Jordan deals with not being able to use his Green Lantern power ring.  I'm not thrilled when a cover spoils an issue, but I have to admit that it is a striking image that catches the eye and it isn't a surprise that Hal is wearing a Sinestro Corps ring.

The Story -
On Oa Krona is interrogating Kilowog, trying to discover why he wasn't take over by Parallax when he was returned to the Central Power Battery.  A little mental probing by the Maltusan reveals the events of Green Lantern: Rebirth, providing both Krona and any newer readers some background information.  Kilowog isn't able to resist the influence of the fear entity a second time when Krona puts a power ring back on his hand and the proximity to Parallax proves too much for him.

New Green Lantern Movie Footage Stuns WonderCon Audiences

After what seems like an eternity Green Lantern fans have something to really get excited about as more polished images and footage have been released by Warner Brothers to kick the advertising for the movie into high gear.  The ten minutes of footage shown at CinemaCon were shown at the Green Lantern panel at WonderCon this past weekend followed by the studio released a high resolution image of the film's official movie poster and four minutes of the footage shown at WonderCon on the Internet.

What amounts to an extended length trailer has turned a lot of anxiety created by the first trailer last November into full blown geek excitement.  Besides the fact that yesterday was my wife's birthday and she takes priority before writing for the site, I found myself in a position where I couldn't focus on putting words on the screen for an article.  So before I start talking about it, if you haven't seen the footage yet, here it is:

Green Lantern Figures Show New Designs for Familiar Characters

Since ceasing publication Wizard magazine has relaunched as an all digital publication with the second issue just hitting the web.  One of the features it this issue highlights a number of the Green Lantern movie figures and the images continue to show how the movies design artists are re-imagining a number of the classic members of the Green Lantern Corps.  Some of the designs, like Isamot Kol, look really great, while others are real departures from how fans have come to know them.

Green Lantern Corps 52 Review

The "Revolt of the Alpha-Lanterns" reaches its conclusion in this week's Green Lantern Corp #52.  This issue has a lot of action packed into its pages, including Cyborg Superman's possible fate and how the Guardians of the Universe are going to deal with what may be their biggest failure since the Manhunter fiasco.

The Story -
Boodikka lay dying on Grenda as a result of Hannu's assault in issue 51, but in her seemingly final moments she surrenders the energy needed to recharge the rings of her fellow lanterns.  Soranik Natu  and John Stewart attempt to hole Boodikka together as the scene shifts to Cyborg Superman and Ganthet, working to remove the Alpha Lantern from Horoq Nnot.

Green Lantern Corps 51 Review

I was pretty harsh in my review of issue fifty of Green Lantern Corps and my opinion changed considerably after chatting with Sean Whelan and Jim Segulin over on the Raging Bullets podcast, so before sitting down to review the latest issue I decided to wait a few days and read the issue a couple more times before writing this review.  While I still think that issue fifty was rather lackluster for a "milestone" issue, the fourth chapter in the "Revolt of the Alpha Lanterns" arc is in my opinion the best issue in Tony Bedard's run thus far.

Green Lantern Corps 50 Review

Mayor's cover to GLC #50
Green Lantern Corps hits a milestone this month with its fiftieth issue.  This month continues with part three of the "Revolt of the Alpha-Lanterns" and the first arc by new writer Tony Bedard.  As nice as Ardian Syaf's cover is, if you can pick up the variant cover by Randy Mayor I think it's a bit better, showing Cyborg Superman as the puppet master of the Alpha-Lanterns.

I have to admit going into this issue that I had some expectations since this issue was a big number to hit for a new series.  But I should have realized that even though DC noted the milestone by putting a big "50th Issue!" on the cover, this wasn't going to be a bigger than normal issue with extra pages or anything.  If I had to surmise this issue I'd have to say it's just business as usual for our cast of Green Lanterns, and actually I  was more impressed with the teaser for Green Lantern: Emerald Warrior than I was with the issue itself.

Green Lantern Corps #48 Review

Guy's ominous words
Tony Bedard kicks off his tenure as the writer of Green Lantern Corps, joined by Ardian Syaf's pencils and Vicente Cifuentes.  This new team has a lot of live up to considering how great Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason were during their run.

The Story -
The issue starts of with an extended version of the conversation we first witnessed in Green Lantern #53 between Ganthet, Guy Gardner and Atrocitus.  We do learn that the threat represented by the mysterious figure that appeared in that issue of Green Lantern is enough to get these three to conspire together in a plan that  if, as  Guy Gardner puts it, "we go through with this, Jordan and I are done bein' friends.  For good."  Of course Guy makes this comment after four minutes of missing conversation.  The missing four minutes must include the knowledge of the missing entities as we see Atrocitus mention them is this week's Green Lantern #54.
