Will the Real Parallax Please Step Forward?

Since word got out that Parallax was going to be the big bad in the Green Lantern movie instead of Legion as it was in the early drafts of the script, fans have been wondering what kind of design the filmmakers would be going for with the look of the fear entity.  A while back Pietro Filipponi from the Daily Blam shared some concept art that showed a very scary primal looking version of Parallax, but today Rich Johnston over as The Bleeding Cool put an image up of Parallax today that shows a decidedly different version that is very similar to one of the toys that was accidentally leaked during the New York ToyFair.  Johnston's image also is that of a toy that is not the final product so it remains to be seen exactly whether it will look closer to the new image or the original concept art.

NECA Previews Green Lantern Movie Merchandise

Toy and collectible maker NECA was largely absent from Toy Fair this year when it came to their license product line based on the upcoming Green Lantern movie.  According to our good friends at the Daily Blam this was due to a product delay.  Luckily for us the folks at NECA sent the Blam some images of some of the products they'll have available this summer from large plush figures to that intriguing power ring that shoots the GL logo up to fifty feet.

Footage of Green Lantern 12 Inch Movie Masters Figure

More footage has hit the Internet from the New York Toy Fair, this time video footage of a demonstration of the twelve inch Movie Masters Green Lantern figure from Mattel.  This deluxe figure comes with a ring which activates lights and sounds on the figure as the proximity of the ring causes Hal's uniform to come to life.  The figure also includes the voice of Ryan Reynolds speaking the Green Lantern oath and comes with a Green Logo base.

Mattel Green Lantern Sets Reveal Parallax

More Mattel Green Lantern news this evening in the form of an over-sized version of Kilowog and some sets of the 3.75" inch figures that include some characters not found elsewhere in the line.  One set, called "The Final Showdown" features a glimpse at what may be the final design of Parallax for the film.  If so, the film version of the Entity of Fear has a slightly humanoid head shape, presumably to allow for the animation of character when he communicates to look better.

Mattel's Green Lantern Movie Masters Lineup

The pictures from this year's New York Toy Fair continue to make their way to the Internet as the event comes to a close.  Mattel had a major presence at this year's show thanks in part to the product line they have coming out for the upcoming Green Lantern movie.  Besides the 3.75" figures in their basic line, Mattel has a six inch line of "Movie Masters" figures that remain true to the movie designs of the characters.  This twelve figure series include a collect and connect fourteen inch long figure of Parallax, with each figure costing between $15 and $17.  Toys R Us will also have some exclusive two packs of the Movie Masters figures and may be the only way to get Abin Sur and Tomar-Re in their six inch versions as they were not shown individually packaged.  The six inch figures also have a bigger brother with a twelve inch Hal Jordan figure with an interactive ring and base which will produce light and sound when the ring comes into proximity.

Green Lantern Basic Figure Photos and Video from Toy Fair

Mattel has two lines of figures in support of the upcoming Green Lantern movie, a series basic and deluxe 3.75" figures and the six inch Movie Masters figures.  The smaller figures are geared towards the younger consumer and feature figures that include variations on the costumes worn in the movie.  This line of Green Lantern figures also comes packed with replica power rings and the Battle Shifter transforming construct toys.  Here then are a number of pictures from the showroom floor of the New York Toy Fair, many of them come from the Toy News International website.

But before the break we have a short video from MTV's Splashpage that highlights many of the toys in Mattel's collection for this summer.

Images and Video of Green Lantern Goodies From Toy Fair

With Toy Fair in full swing today we have some cool images and video coming out of New York City.  First up is a video that shows some of the new toys in action including the transformation of the Ring Blaster Jet to tank, the "Colossal Cannon" and the packaging of the Movie Masters line.  The Green Lantern section starts about 3:33 into the video.

Pietro Filipponi from the Daily Blam is also on the show floor and has posted two pictures, one of the Green Lantern display and another of the Power Battery prop from DC Direct that will cost $350.

The last picture for now shows an upcoming wave of Green Lantern figures that includes Stel, Soranik Natu, Guy Gardner and Arkkis Chummuck.  By the articulation of the figures this appears to be a new wave of figures by DC Direct.

Toy Fair Provides Glimpses of Green Lantern Goodies

Toy Fair, the Comic Con of the toy industry, is going on right now in New York City and the press for the event has provided Green Lantern fans with more information on all the toy and collectible merchandise that will make their ways to store shelves in the coming months.

In their USA Weekend coverage of Toy Fair they provided an image of the previously seen Tomar-Re figure but unveiled for the first time an action figure of Green Lantern NautKeLoi, a water breathing alien from the planet Aeros.  The figure has been majorly redesigned for the movie, including the removal of his water helmet breathing apparatus.  The USA Weekend article also mentions that we will begin seeing Green Lantern toys showing up on store shelves in April rather than May as many people had thought.

Rubies Catalog Reveals More Green Lantern Costume Details

Not as nice as the Arisia costume...

One thing is always true about big movies and that is wherever big Hollywood movies go, big merchandising follows.  And with that is the certainty that not all the merchandise that gets licensed is going to meet with everyone's approval and nowhere is that more apparent than when it comes to Halloween costumes.  We've already seen some sneak peaks and preview images from what Rubies Costume Company is planning to have in the offering for this Halloween and the collective response from the fan community has been overwhelmingly negative.

While I certainly agree that the costume photos don't look promising there is also the realization that this gives young fans a chance to role-play and explore the Green Lantern universe in a way they we didn't, and in a day when we have some really anemic comic book sales in my mind anything that helps promote comic characters in a crowded marketplace is a good thing.  I will say this, though, whoever is in charge of getting models and choosing the shots for Rubies needs to rethink their career choice a little because a lot of choices make the products look worse than they may actually be.

Thanks to our friends at the Daily Blam we have a look at the pages from Rubies' catalog, this time highlighting some of the makeup and accessories from the upcoming movie costume line as well as a take at a female Green Lantern costume.
