Mattel Offers Green Lantern Product Preview and Details on Exclusives

Mattel's Matty Collector site not only has a section set up for Green Lantern now, but they've offered some new images of upcoming products as well as outlined the retailer and online exclusives.

You don’t need a mystical ring to command a sneak peek at our toy line based on the upcoming Green Lantern film… here’s everything you need to know!

Because fans of Green Lantern span all ages, the product lines will be both kid and collector-focused. To see pics of just some of the toys in the vast universe of products, click here.

KIDS' LINE AT RETAIL
The line for kids will be in 4" scale. We have an incredible roster of toys with an array of features that lets them play out all their favorite scenes from the movie.

Two of the figure / vehicle combos
  • Figures and Vehicles Basic Figures. For the basic figures, each comes with a construct accessory and Power Ring. You’ll find the biggest selection of characters in this line.
  • Deluxe Figures. The “deluxe” figures will feature Battle Shifters™ that play on the “something from nothing” movie theme. Think plastic origami… a single touch makes it pop out into an aggressive weapon like a Gatling gun or a scorpion construct. There will be eight figures in the assortment and they’ll be in scale with basic 4" figures.
  • Figure/Vehicles. Kids are gonna LOVE the figures and vehicles that feature ring activation. The ring will transform vehicles from driving mode to an attack mode.
  • Galactic Scale™ Figures. Hal and Kilowog arrive as 10" Galactic Scale™ figures that have a light-up chest logo when you lift the arm. They also come with a light-up construct accessory with projectiles that snap onto their arms. Hal’s construct projects a Green Lantern symbol!

The Toys R Us Green Lantern Saga Continues...Updated

Delayed...again

Many other Green Lantern fans and I have been on a unique journey together for the past couple of months.  The week after Christmas retailer Toys R Us announced that they were pre-ordering a special Green Lantern early bird action figure and the road from those days to the final release of the figure have been a bumpy one - and it's taken yet another detour.

Shortly after the figure was offered is disappeared from the Toys R Us website, and people received emails notifying them that this limited figure of a production run of 2814 was delayed.  Toys R Us, rather than just keep those orders on hold, cancelled all of them only to put the figures back on sale a day or two later.  Once again the figure was delayed and orders were cancelled for a second time.

For a third time now the figure was made available with a revised shipping date of March 4th.  That date came and went and over the past week customers have received emails that explained that the figure was delayed yet again, but that orders were not cancelled, that is as long as the figure is released by April 3rd.  Otherwise not only will all the orders be cancelled, but the figure's release will no longer be an "early bird" offer but one that sits alongside every other Green Lantern action figure.

**Update - Production issues have been resolved on this figure and Toy's R Us has them in stock at their warehouses.  Many fans received an email today from Toy's R Us notifying them that the Early Bird figures are shipping today with an arrival date of March 22nd through the 25th.

Is the Third Time A Charm for the Toys R Us GL Figure?

The figure causing so much confusion and ire.
The saga of the Toys R Us Early Bird Green Lantern action figure continues today with the Toys R Us website listing the figure for pre-order once again.  This is the third time the figure has been offered, and this time the price has gone up by $3.50.

The story began in the last days of December when the figure was first offered by Toys R Us for $24.99 with a mid-February release date.  The figure quickly sold out, but by mid-January everyone who pre-ordered the figure received emails stating that their orders had been canceled, sparking a lot of phone calls from fans who didn't want to miss out on their first chance to get a movie collectible.  Production problems were quoted as an issue, and rather than simply honor the pre-orders and change the ship date Toys R Us opted to just cancel the orders outright.

Flash forward just a few days and the same figure was re-offered for pre-order by Toys R Us with the original release date intact and many fans, myself included, jumped back online to secure the limited edition figure.  Once again the item sold out quickly and the item disappeared from the Toys R Us website, but some people began to report online that they'd heard that those orders would be canceled and the figure wouldn't be put back up for sale until February 1st.  This seemed to line up with comments from Mattel that were included in a feature article in Toyfare magazine,  and, while some people had their orders canceled, a large number of people never received an email canceling their order and their orders still showed up as "on hold until release date".  Many people made calls to Toys R Us and received conflicting messages about what was going on with this item, leading to a whole lot of confusion and anger.

A better view of both figure and ring
The plot thickened today with the relisting of the figure with a too ironic to be anything but intentionally geeky 28.14 price change and a release date of March 4th.  Not to be snarky but I did double check the year to make sure it was listed as 2011!  In checking my account I still show my mid-January order intact for $24.99, but I'm not taking any chances and putting in a second, or shall I make that third order in just to make sure.  Because the one I've learned since this fiasco began is that you can't be too sure what to expect from Toys R Us and you have to keep all your bases covered.  So get them while they're hot, or until Toys R Us changes their minds...again!

Exclusive Toys R Us Green Lantern Figure Re-Offered

Over the weekend we learned that Toys R Us had canceled all orders for the exclusive Green Lantern early bird figure based on production issues and not being able to meet the shipping date.  This morning the figure is back up on their website for pre-order with an estimated shipping date of February 25th - the same date as the original offer.  Whether this is a mistake or the production issue has been resolved is unknown.

So get your order in now here and let's hope this is the last hiccup with the release of this figure.

Update:  The figure is no longer available on the Toys R Us website, meaning that either the figure has sold out or it has been canceled again.  No one  has reported getting a cancellation email, so here's to hoping it was just immensely popular.

Exclusive GL Movie Figure Canceled

Many Green Lantern fans, myself included, were ecstatic the week after Christmas when Toys R Us offered an early bird edition Green Lantern figure on its website.  Within a couple of days the limited run of 2814 figures had run out and fans who'd missed out were left to contemplate trying find the figure on the secondary market after the pending February release.

Over the past several days fans who pre-ordered this figure have gotten emails informing them that their orders have been canceled.  It appears that a production problem with Mattel is the culprit behind the cancellation as a result of their inability to produce the figure to meet the release deadline.  A customer representative from Toys R Us could not confirm whether or not the figure had a new release date, when or if they would  be offering it as a pre-order item again, or even if the figure would be released at all
