Voices from Kyrpton broke the news today that Bruce Timm, the long time shepherd of everything DC animated at Warner Brothers, has stepped down from his position as the supervising producer for the studio. While perhaps shocking news to many it is a sign of the changing times and while it may appear that this is a bad thing, there’s plenty to think about with the accompanying news that James Tucker will step into the role and that Timm will be developing on his own projects.
Tucker has a long resume of DC animated projects and he will likely bring something new to the table as the DC direct to video movies move forward. According to the article Timm was initially stepping down to put more personal attention on Green Lantern: The Animated Series however with the series not getting picked up for a second season he is now left with time to devote on who knows what and that could be a very good thing not only for him personally but for fans. Should the series find new life outside of the Cartoon Network he will be more able to be involved in working on the show and as a fan of his work since the days of Batman: The Animated Series I’m know I’m looking forward to whatever he has in mind and I have no doubt that we’ll be seeing his name connected with the DC Universe in the future.
