So back in May Umberto Gonzalez, known to many as online scooper El Mayimbe, was pretty positive that Green Lantern was going to show up in next year’s Justice League movie in a response to a question I posed to him on his YouTube show, Heroic Insider, which you can view here.  At the time it was still Warner Brothers plan to do Justice League in two parts and Gonzalez refused to indicate which member of the Corps would appear, although he then said he thought it was Hal Jordan.  We’ve had a drought of information since then….until now.

Today Umberto reported from his new position on The Wrap that a member of the Green Lantern Corps will appear in a key sequence in the film.  There are a couple of things to take from that:

  • The Wrap is not a rumor site, it’s a site which requires fact checking before they will print something in order to protect their reputation and legitimacy.  So the fact that it appears on their site makes it much, much more solid that your typical rumor.
  • The statement doesn’t tell us who the Green Lantern is – so it could be anyone from a human member of the Corps to an alien member and it doesn’t say that person is a member of the Justice League.

So while this is exciting to see that there will be some representation from the Corps in the film it’s still very much up in the air as to whether Justice League will really “unite the seven” or not.  In my own opinion it will be a soft reboot of the franchise as a way to lead up to a larger role in the second Justice League film and the 2020 Green Lantern Corps movie.  As for who’ll wear the ring, well time will tell.
