As part of a series of changes marked by the exit of Diane Nelson as the President of DC Entertainment, Geoff Johns has stepped down as the Chief Creative Officer. Johns has taken a new deal which will allow him to write more comics as well as having an impact on DC Entertainment superhero films. One film named in particular is the Green Lantern Corps movie which is slated for 2020 and will now be written by Johns, who will also be the film’s Executive Producer.
As of January of last year the film was said to be co-written by David Goyer and Justin Rhodes, based on a story by Goyer and Johns. Under the term of this new agreement Johns, under his new Mad Ghost Productions banner, will write the script which will be based on his iconic Green Lantern run. Johns new role will allow him to embrace his passion for writing and being on the set of DC’s films. Johns’ role as Chief Creative Office will be filled by Jim Lee.
The Mad Ghost Productions website mentions that Green Lantern Corps is in development and confirms that the movie will star both Hal Jordan and John Stewart, debunking recent rumors to the contrary. At this time there’s no word on how this impacts the film’s planned 2020 release date.
