The big CW Arrowverse crossover, perhaps one of the most ambitious events ever attempted with the sprawling DC multiverse, reached its conclusion this week. Unlike the comic book event which inspired it, the Arrowverse event left us with a new multiverse including several new universes tied to other DC Comics television products. One Earth in particular, Earth-12, gave a major nod to the Green Lantern mythology, showing a Green Lantern flying to Oa, the Guardians of the Universe and the Green Lantern Corps itself. Perhaps this was a way to hint at the new HBO Max series that’s in the works, but the interesting choice made for the finale of the Arrowverse event by using elements from the 2011 Green Lantern movie. This is likely due to the HBO Max series being so early in its development cycle and a creative decision to use what assets already existed more so than trying to establish that the new series is a continuation of the universe set up in the 2011 film. You can see the footage in the video above, and here are a few screen grabs if you’re less inclined to watch the video.
Additionally, the Arrowverse crossover made reference to Maltus, the birthplace of the Guardians, the Zamorans and the Controllers. Another Green Lantern tie-in to the event is a comic book with a cover by the legendary Jerry Ordway which includes both Tomar-Re and Kilowog. Ordway recently shared the cover sketch of the second issue on Twitter.
