Longtime comics writer Dennis “Denny” O’Neil passed away on June 11, 2020 at the age of 81. Denny was born on May 3, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri , began his career writing for newspapers after graduating from college and serving in the Navy.  After working at Marvel O’Neil made his  way to DC Comics where, partnered with artist Neal Adams, the creative team helped give birth to the Bronze Age of comics.

O’Neil and Adams are of course no strangers to Green Lantern fans, with the creative team producing the “Hard Travelling Heroes” run in Green Lantern.  The team is returning to the Green Lantern universe again when the Green Lantern 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular is released on June 23rd.  O’Neil then teamed with artist Mike Grell for another run dubbed “Space Travelling Heroes” which is seeing a collected edition being published July.  O’Neil was perhaps best known at DC Comics for his work on Green Lantern and his revitalization of Batman, also an Adams collaboration.

O’Neil’s family reports that Denny died of natural causes at his home.
