Today IGN released the first trailer for the upcoming Green Lantern: Beware My Power animated film.  The animated film is a part of WB’s “Tomorrowverse” line of movies and centers on the origins of John Stewart as a Green Lantern. The Sinestro Corps feature as the antagonists of the movie, which releases on home video on July 26, 2022.

I’m honestly not thrilled by what I see in this first look at the film. John’s Green Lantern origins fall far from his comic book past, borrowing too heavily from both Kyle Rayner and Hal Jordan’s beginnings. The design of Sinestro looks odd with the beard, and the Sinestro Corp logo has been turned into something….else.  Add that they found it necessary to kill Hal off and it feels like they’ve given way to some lackluster writing.  I could be wrong, and I hope that I am, but this one doesn’t look very good from what we’ve been given to judge it by.  I think there was a great opportunity to mix a modernized version of John’s comic book roots with the actual “Sinestro Corps War” plot and get a great animated feature that didn’t rely on the Justice League to show up, but that’s a conversation for another time.  Here’s the trailer for you to watch and gather your own opinions.
