Board Game company CMON have a new crowdfunding project going on, a DC version of their popular Marvel United game entitled DC Super Heroes United. As a part of the unfolding campaign CMON announced a Green Lantern Corps character pack as an optional add-on purchase for $30. The character pack includes John Stewart, Kilowog, Guy Gardner, Salaak, and Jessica Cruz. You will of course need the base game in order to use the Corps characters.
The characters pack includes the character specific card decks and unpainted miniatures for the game, but also includes some additional cards that add some extra gameplay. There is a team deck that gives players some additional options when playing a team of Green Lantern characters, plus there are equipment cards which give players some funs ways to incorporate power rings into their gameplay. The miniatures even use some green transparent material to represent Green Lantern energy.
You might be asking about Hal, Sinestro and other Green Lantern characters, and you’d be right to wonder about this. Given that this is a character pack and doesn’t include any villains I expect to see either a proper Green Lantern expansion or a Blackest Night themed campaign box that will include these characters, and possibly more.
If you’ve never played CMON’s Marvel United game you owe yourself the chance to enjoy what may be the best superhero board game out there. Players team together to defeat a common foe, with each player benefitting from the action card played by the player that preceded them – encouraging teamwork and creative thinking. What really cool as a comics fan is knowing that this game will be compatible with Marvel United, so players can have their own DC/Marvel crossover of their own making. Here’s a video showing some gameplay of the DC Super Heroes United core box that will give you some idea of how the game is played. If you’re interested in backing the project, the link to the campaign is here. And if you’re worried about this being a crowdfunding project, CMON is an established games publisher with a great reputation and they often use crowdfunding as a way to offer fans exclusive content that will not be available on the retail market. The campaign ends on July 31st and fans have already pledged over $1 million and unlocked a lot of bonus content. I’m a big board game fan and love Marvel United and you can bet I’m all in on this one.
Still no Hal?
Not yet – rumor is there’s a “War of Light” expansion coming that will include Hal and Sinestro plus some of the other colors.
