Rebel Ridge star Aaron Pierre has captured the role John Stewart in the upcoming Lanterns HBO Max series. The 31 year old Pierre will star opposite 59 year old Kyle Chandler, who was recently cast as Hal Jordan. Unlike with the casting of Chandler, DC Studios Head James Gunn took to social media to welcome Pierre to DC. Pierre was one two actors that were in final contention for the role, with the other being Stephan James. Both actors tested opposite Chandler, presumably to see what chemistry they have.

In other show news, established television director James Hawes has been chosen to direct the show’s first two episodes. There is a rumor that actress Kelly MacDonald is being offered the role of Hal Jordan’s romantic interest, a sheriff presumably connected with the murder that Hal Jordan and John Stewart are investigating. Just to keep the numbers rolling, MacDonald is 48, making her 11 years younger than Chandler, who’s nearly twice the age of Aaron Pierre.
