Co-hosts Myron Rumsey and Phil Bova are back with a doozy with episode 250 of The Podcast of Oa. Green Lantern issue 15 shows itself to be another good chapter in the Jeremy Adams run, but then the conversation goes dark when the two talk about the casting of Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan in the Lanterns series. Listeners have asked for a no holds barred conversation and they get it with this one as Myron targets his ire on the decision making process and points a middle finger at Ryan Reynolds. Needless to say this one isn’t going to be family friendly!

Fun rant. Personally I’m indifferent to the casting due to the show feeling a little phoned in. Like “Oh we need Green Lantern in our DC cinematic universe and there’s so much mythology in GL lets just trunk most of it to get a Green Lantern on the JL” I think its a shame because there is potential to do a proper GL show as a Science Fiction show ie. The Expanse.
Would love to see a Sci Fi 2001 esque Dennis Villeneuve Green Lantern to contrast Nolan’s Bond esque Bat epics.
But unfortunately studios are more focused on universe building to make a big blockbuster. I get the feeling the Gunn is trying to give WB an MCU Infinity War with DC rather than showing what makes the individual characters great and unique in their own right. Same with my concern with the Authority giving WB their version of The Boys. Overall Gunns take is just not for me.
TBH we haven’t even seen an official DCU film from Gunn yet. His Superman sounds like the man gets it.
While I’m not crazy about the casting and likely decision of sidelining Hal for the boring military angle on John (much more interesting as a socially aware architect as he was created as), the True Detective earthbound angle sounds like just what we need.
I’m saying this as a lifelong GL fan who started reading his Silver Age stuff at the collectors shop in the 1970s.
