First, thoughts and prayers to Myron- glad to hear that recovery is in progress.
I was excited to read the new GL Corps #1, and I really enjoyed it. I share Phil’s glass half full take on the potential of the first issue.
I wanted to quibble on one point that Myron made. I am in full agreement that I read the Corps book to see alien characters and sci-fi elements, and there are too many human lanterns they’re trying to cram into this book (and I have no interest in the Ellie/Smelly/Nelly/Keli stuff). So I really enjoyed the plot hook of recruiting new aliens into the corps if they prove themselves worthy. The story with Vexar’u felt like an old GL Quarterly story. I agree with Myron that I hope that doesn’t become formulaic, but if it’s a device to get more aliens in the book, then I’m okay with using it now and again.
Finally, I wanted to get your thoughts on an idea of how to approach this book. I used to enjoy the old Justice League stories where the heroes would split into smaller teams and go into different directions. I’d like to see this book pair up a couple humans and a couple aliens to go out on missions as a device to get some meaningful time with each of them. And for Pete’s sake, I’d happily pay an extra buck or two if they could expand this to 30 pages a month!
